SUMMARY
(warning: it contains spoilers as I update this part every time a new chapter comes)
The story is set in a world where humanity lives in cities surrounded by walls due to the Titans. it’s centered on the lives of Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert, which change drastically after the appearance of the colossal and the armored titan who take over Wall Maria. Eren, after witnessing his mother’s murder from a titan says:
(about the titans)”I’ll purge this world of them… every single one of them.”
After four years of training, before he could join the survey corps, the colossal titan appears again. Eren tries to fight it but it vanishes in one instant. watching his friends being eaten, he saves Armin from being eaten by a titan taking his place. He then transforms into a titan and defends Mikasa and the others.
Later on, he comes back to normal, but the people don’t trust him.
On a mission to take back Trost, the military have the idea of using Eren’s titan form to block a hole caused by the Colossal titan, but Eren wasn’t obeying orders and nearly killed Mikasa. While unconscious, Armin convinces Eren to block the hole, and they all finally manage to take back Trost.
Afterwards there is a trial to decide if Eren is a menace to mankind or not, but the commander Levi convinces the Judge to Eren Join the survey Corps.
The next morning Eren wakes up chained to a wall in a cell, and the military ask him what does the key hanging from his neck open. He answers that his father had given him that key to open the door of his basement once he was prepared. Eren and the military think that the basement is the key to find out the secret of the titans. During their journey, they’re intercepted by the Female titan.
Later the survey corps think that the Female titan is another person with the same ability as Eren. Their first suspect is Annie Leonheart, but when they try to verify it, she transforms to the Female titan and engages a battle against Eren. After having lost, she uses her titan’s ability to shut herself up in a really hard crystal ball. During the battle, Mikasa discovers that the walls that surround the cities have been created with the help of the Titans locked inside.
Then, after a battle against the Titans in fort Utgart, Connie and the others learn the existence of the Beast titan that can control other titans, that Ymir is a Titan, and that Reiner Braun is the Armored titan and Bertholdt is the Colossal titan, and they want to take Eren with them because of his ability to control titans (he discovered it by killing the smiling titan, the one that murdered his mother).
While seeking to protect Wall Maria, the military are plotting to overthrow the government in order to obtain the authority over all the people within the walls. They then discover that the girl who was always following Ymir, who calls herself Christa Renz, is actually Historia Reiss, a member of the royal family.

PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS
Eren
Eren comes from district Shiganshina, located on the outside of the wall Maria.
After witnessing the destruction of his village and the death of his mother, along with her sister Mikasa and his best friend Armin he decides to enroll in the military, the objective being the extermination of all the Titans.
He is very decided to join the survey corps since the 1º chapter.
Since he was little he has shown a very violent behaviour, but he really cares about his teammates and constantly risks his life to save them.
He can transform into a titan by self-inflicted damage.
Mikasa
She is the adoptive sister of Eren. She loves him a lot because he saved her from some kidnappers who wanted to make her their slave.
She is considered a military genius.

Levi
He is an officer of the Survey Corps, and holds the rank of sergeant. He is known as the strongest soldier of humanity.
Even if he looks young, Isayama has revealed that he is extremely old.
Armin
He is Eren’s best friend. Even if he lacks strength, he is very intelligent and is capable of preparing strategies.
he usually becomes very nervous because of the preoccupation of the war against the Titans.

PERSONAL OPINION
Personally this manga series is one of my favorites with Bleach, One Piece and Naruto.
The story is awesome and a lot of people didn’t expect this Anime to be this great. Since the first chapter you’re captivated to read more and more.
Even if by reading the first chapter you may think that the story is quite sad, some moments are very funny (In my opinion the funniest moment is when captain Levi is dressed as a cleaning lady).
The Anime’s animation is splendid and the drawing style is unique, both the manga and the Anime. The details are meticulously chosen and, because of the story is based in a medieval city (you can doubt if it really is because of the advanced weaponry), the houses are rustic and symbolize the social status of the people.
The character’s design is great, because they represent very well humanity, and that’s something you don’t see in the manga series like One Piece, where some characters are exaggerated to make them ridiculous.
The background is carefully chosen for each scene, and the design of the Titans, of which some of them have psychopath smiles (like the smiling Titan) and other deformities that enhances their will of killing and destroying the humanity.
The character’s personalities vary widely, from the desire for food of Sasha (shown in the 2º OVA), to Eren’s urge of killing the Titans, and that makes the series even more realistic.
If you watch the Anime, one of the most fascinating details of the show is the original soundtrack, I believe that it is one of the best soundtracks together with Naruto and Bleach of all the manga series.

The opening in the Anime is amazing and epic, and the background of the story is very well illustrated before that in the first chapters.
However, two aspects i don’t like are these:
Firstly, I don’t like the fact that the only official games made for this amazing show are only available for Smartphone and Nintendo 3DS and not for more supports, yet you can find an amazing unofficial browser game for made by “Feng” that gives you the sensation of being in the Anime.

Another thing I dislike is the time we’ll have to wait to see the next chapters, but it’s justified because of the quality of the Anime (I’m not very informed, but some say that the next chapters will be coming next year).
The story is well written, the manga and Anime are well drawn and animated, the creators really take care of the small details and the facts that come as the story advances makes this series great. And I think that it’s normal for it to have this success.
Therefore I would like to assign to this manga 5 stars out of 5.
